We know that the Amazon is on the global agenda with increasing intensity. In order for representation to be diverse, with genuinely local perspectives and voices, it is essential to listen to local sources of knowledge, from different areas of activity.
It was with this in mind that we began developing the platform, as a way to generate and foster connections with local sources and communication professionals in the region. We moved forward and built our third front: Solutions Journalism content. In this way, we tell stories of local initiatives that respond to the challenges of the Amazon, listening to local sources and working with professionals from the region.
Investments made to the project, through different means - such as grants, notices and partnerships - are reinvested in the project itself, in addition to generating income locally, with the hiring and training of local professionals, helping to promote and develop the project.
We have several types of support and partnerships at different levels, as it is a collaborative project with free and voluntary registrations. Part of the information from registered sources is collected through active searches by our team on public and freely accessible websites, in compliance with the General Data Protection Law (LGPD).
Since its inception, the platform has had the technical and institutional support and acceleration of the Bem da Amazônia Institute, a non-profit organization formed by experienced professionals from the region. It currently has institutional support through the Knight Fellowship from the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), a global organization that has been working for 40 years to foster innovation, plurality and strengthening of professional journalism. We also have an institutional partnership with the Lemann Foundation, which has facilitated training and other initiatives.
To talk about the Amazon, it is necessary to know its different "Amazonias". In this sense, it is essential that the narrative about the region in the press be led by those who think, build and live in the territory.
The Amazônia Vox platform connects with experts and references in the most varied segments, including public agents, community leaders, social movements, researchers, traditional peoples, the productive and cultural sector, among others.
Our mission is to shorten distances, providing closer contact and, furthermore, a greater plurality of voices in coverage of the region.
We believe that, with a greater presence of Amazonian sources in the media and in discussion spaces, we will move towards recognition of the quality of knowledge produced in the Amazon, legitimizing the voice of the region's main reference for talking about the Amazon: the people.
For those seeking access to the voices that echo from the region, Amazônia Vox also provides aformSearch in the database of freelancers in the region.
The collection of references includes journalists, photographers, designers, filmmakers and other professionals from different activities and social groups in all states of the Legal Amazon.
The goal is to provide greater agility and knowledge about the people and the scenario of the region where they work to media outlets and the press looking for occasional work or formal employment.
It is worth remembering that Amazônia Vox only establishes the connection, without having any responsibility for hiring and providing services, but assumes the commitment to offer qualifications to those who are in partnership with us.
Based on a collective and networked construction, nothing would make more sense than sharing knowledge among us, Amazonians. It was with this in mind that we set up a network of journalists in the nine states of the Legal Amazon to begin this project.
In addition to the website development team and a network of partner collaborators, we have journalists in each of the 9 States, with the mission of helping to identify sources and supporting the registration carried out by our team, expanding and diversifying our source bank throughout the Amazon.
